Our Sleep Testing Process

Our Sleep Testing Process

Every SleepScore Daily recommendation is backed by overnight measurement data.

The SleepScore Daily scoring system

Every product receives a score from 1.0 to 10.0 across five sleep-relevant criteria. The overall sleep score is a weighted average, with weights determined by each criterion's documented impact on overnight rest quality.

How we test for sleep impact

1. Product acquisition. We purchase every product at full retail price from the same channels available to our readers. We do not accept free review units.

2. Overnight testing. Each product category has a standardized protocol — mattresses and pillows are tested over multi-week panel evaluations with actigraphy trackers and sleep diaries in real bedrooms, not simulated lab environments.

3. Comparative scoring. Every product is measured against the same fixed criteria so scores are comparable across brands and price points, not just within a single review.

4. Long-term reassessment. Materials that perform well on night one but degrade by week three are re-scored. We revisit our top picks when manufacturers update models or new competitors launch.

What we do not do

  • We do not accept payment for a favorable review.
  • We do not let affiliate commission rates influence product selection or ranking.
  • We do not publish sponsored content without clear disclosure.
